Finding the Trailhead

Driving distance from the home: 2.4 miles, 5 minutes

Lands: Olympic National Park

Hiking the Trail

The hike begins at the north side of the parking lot at Rialto Beach and heads north, the beach is your trail during low tide. During high tide you will need to climb over driftwood and logs as you will be pushed to the upper reaches of the beach. You'll need to cross Ellen Creek, a small stream, to reach Hole in the Wall. Depending on the tide, you may get your feet wet or find a log to cross.

Hole-in-the-Wall, a natural arch carved into the rock by the powerful waves, is best enjoyed during low tide as you can actually walk through the wall to the beaches on the other side. This is the only area along the trail that has tide pools so the hike is worth the payoff. If you explore the beaches and attractions beyond Hole in the Wall, time your visit so you can return through the hole during low tide or you may have to climb the headlands to get back to the parking lot.

Restrictions and Tips

Olympic National Park prohibits weapons and vehicles, however, pets are allowed on the beach up to Ellen Creek. Check the Mora Ranger Station for tides and plan your hike for 2 hours before low tide so you have plenty of time to enjoy the beach and explore the tide pools.
